German church moderator questions Sunday liturgy, touching a delicate subject.

Should Sundays be the day of church worship? Or is there a better time for us to do that? This subject has sparked a discussion in Germany among the moderators of a regional church. 

The decline in church attendance worries the Rhineland Protestant Church (EKiR). The church board therefore put forth a "innovation" strategy in an attempt to increase attendance during worship. 

The Sunday "innovation" was only intended to be a minor component of a larger "regional worship landscape" design. The common consensus is that local parishes should be subject to "fewer regulations" from the central Rhineland church (EKiR). For instance, it states that community leaders ought to have the authority to choose whether the weekly service would take place on Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning or any other day.

However, it was precisely this aspect that generated news and conversation. In Germany, as in other nations, Sunday morning remains the main time for church.

At first, Thorsten Latzel, the moderator of the Rhineland state church, stated that "what happens on Sunday" is not the main focus of the Christian faith. He stated that "everyday worship" is far more significant, as reported by the news agency Idea.
